Yes. Yaqeen Research Institute (DBA Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research) is a registered, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with EIN 81-2822877. Yaqeen Endowment is a separate, registered, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with EIN 83-4372176. Its public charity (PC) status is 509(A)(3) Type I, meaning it is a supporting organization. It was founded to benefit and support the purposes of Yaqeen Research Institute. Your donation to both entities is tax-deductible. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt from Yaqeen as your official record.

The issue of the Zakat eligibility of organizations that have a Dawah mandate is one that scholars differ over. Our Shaykh Dr. Hatem al-Haj has written at length about it in this article. He has also written that “Since the purpose of Yaqeen Institute is ‘establishing conviction in the hearts and minds of Muslims’, it is a legitimate recipient of Zakat.” This position is adopted by a number of contemporary scholars, including the Islamic Fiqh Council. They consider dawah to be included in the category of ‘fi sabeel-illah’ mentioned in the verse of Surat at-Tawbah detailing the deserving recipients of Zakat.” With that being said, Yaqeen is not soliciting Zakat at this time, and asking donors to give their Zakat to humanitarian aid while continuing to make use of their Sadaqa to sponsor the work of Yaqeen and other worthy non-profit organizations.
