The Lifespan Experiences of Muslim Converts Survey (LEMC)

Overview

This dataset is based on survey data collected by the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research from 618 American Muslim converts in 2021. The Lifespan Experiences of Muslim Converts survey (LEMC) is a cross-sectional study that probed the demographics, childhood experiences, conversion processes, family and social life, and religiosity of converts. A non-probability convenience sample of converts was solicited through email listservs and online networks of converts in America. The sample collected is not a representative sample of the actual proportions of American Muslim converts across demographic groups. Particular ethnic groups, such as Hispanics, were oversampled to ensure appropriate analyses could be conducted with sufficient sample sizes. Yaqeen is most gracious for the support and collaboration of the many individuals and organizations who helped in the design and dissemination of the survey, especially IslamInSpanish.
